Rory Thomas — multimedia producer and photographer
20+
Years in the field

Internationally published, award-winning, and trusted by a Fortune 500 client list. Rory Thomas has spent more than twenty years producing, directing, shooting and editing for corporate, medical, technology, manufacturing, entertainment and consumer brands.

He founded Rory Thomas Productions LLC in St. Paul in 2014. His work has appeared on the Microsoft.com homepage, in lifestyle image libraries for Microsoft Retail and Verizon, and in a sizzle reel for Microsoft at the Black Hat security conference. For SAP he produced daily interview shorts at the National Retail Federation show in New York and Las Vegas, four years running.

He has produced segments for Discover Delicious and filmed hundreds of interviews with athletes, executives, scientists, doctors and entertainers. For BI Worldwide, on its program for Roche Diagnostics, he delivered more than 150 video and photography assets over four years of international e-learning, and led the program's move into AI, translating more than thirty lessons from English to French.

He came to it through design: two fine arts degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, in advertising and graphic design and in fine art photography, then eleven years of retouching and design for Minneapolis agencies on national campaigns for Target, Subway and JCPenney. He can lead a production end to end or work inside a larger team.

East Coast efficiency. West Coast attitude. Midwest foundation.

How Rory works

Clean, clear and condensed.

Good footage, clean audio and a tidy edit are the baseline, not the job. The job is telling the story in the clearest, shortest form it can take, tailored to the people who have to watch it.

  1. Pre-production

The story is settled before a camera comes out: who it is for, what they need to take away, and the shortest way to get them there. Script, shot list, locations, crew and schedule follow from that.

  2. Production

Camera, lighting and sound run by someone who has done all three for twenty years, so the day goes to getting the right material instead of fixing problems.

  3. Editing

Cut to the story, not to the footage. Anything that does not serve the audience comes out, however good it looks.

  4. Post

Color, sound mix, graphics and delivery in every format the project needs. Rory's record is 99% on time and on budget.
